Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party 2013 – Part 2

Halfway through Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, Scarlett and I met back up with Luke and Tom in Frontierland to stake out a spot for the Boo To You Halloween Parade. It wasn’t very crowded at the 10:30pm parade, so we found a good spot pretty quickly. While Tom saved our place, the kids and I went to Woody’s Happy Harvest Roundup at the Diamond Horseshoe.

My kids did not want to dance. That’s surprising for Scarlett, who dances all the time, everywhere. I guess she’s just not into hoedowns.

After we left, Tom took them back in while I saved our spot, and supposedly she danced then so I’m happy about that.

They returned right as the headless horseman road by, and the rest of the parade wasn’t far behind!

After a bunch of classic characters came by, it was Pirate time.

Haunted Mansion ghosts were pretty awesome – and actually scary!

The Villains float was my favorite.

It was a great parade, even my sometimes squirmy kids.

Next post, we finally get to meet some cool (royal) characters!

Disney Family Movie Night: Toy Story 2

For our Toy Story 2 movie night dinner, I focused on Woody’s Round-Up Gang (plus Al dressed as a chicken).

Our Toy Story 2 Menu:
Al’s Toy Barn Chicken
Stinky Pete’s Gold Corn Nuggets
Bullseye’s Carrots and Apples
Woody’s Cowboy Crunch (Reese’s Cereal)
Andy’s Cowboy Camp S’mores Pie (Chocolate pudding in graham cracker crust with marshmallows)
Jessie’s Rootin’-est Tootin’-est Root Beer

This dinner was a little more elaborate than usual, but it was easy to put together. And it tasted good, too!

The movie was one of our better viewings. Luke thought the scene where the toys have to cross the street under traffic cones was great, and was genuinely concerned that the pipe might run them over! Too funny.

I feel a little bad when I watch Toy Story 2 because I have an eBay toy store. As someone who shops yard sales to find toys to sell, I am essentially The Villain in this movie!! I have never and would never steal something from a yard sale, though, so that puts me one step above Al. And I haven’t sold anything to a museum yet, just to new kids who will love the toys. So maybe I’m a good guy in the end?

You can get my menu cards for this meal here and here. Enjoy!

Toy Story 2 Activity: Visiting the Toy Store

One thing we HAD to do for Toy Story 2 Week was – duh! – visit the toy store!

Luke went straight for the train table, his favorite part of the store. There weren’t any trains this time, but he made it work.

Scarlett did a bit of shopping on her own ;).

Oh, hey! The Toy Story toys!

We had to check out the bikes and Scarlett’s favorite, the Power Wheels.

Tom and Luke went to look at video games while Scarlett and I looked at the dolls. She found some Oz the Great and Powerful make-up that she fancied.
When it was time to go, Scarlett wanted to stay, so she hunkered down in a baby pool by the exit.

We finally convinced her to leave with the promise of strawberries with dinner. Otherwise, she might have decided to live at Toys R Us. And, really, I don’t blame her – it’s not Al’s Toy Barn, but it sure is fun!

Disney Movie of the Week: Toy Story 2

I know it’s kind of random to have a Toy Story 2 week without having a week for the original Toy Story first. But before we went to Disney, I did a little dinner for Buzz Lightyear of Star Command: The Adventure Begins so the kids would understand Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin.  This time around, I thought a Woody-themed dinner would be fun, and I think Toy Story 2 is the best movie for a Woody theme.

But while I’m thinking about it, here’s our Buzz dinner:

Our Buzz Lightyear Menu:
“Pizza Planet” Pizza
Toy Story Fruit Snacks
“Comets”(Cheese Balls)
“Shooting Stars” (Carrots and Ranch)
“Alien Ice” (Lime Sherbert)
“Buzz’s Rocket Fuel” (Lime & Grape Gatorade)
I have some ideas that I think will be fun for TS2 that I will try out throughout the week!

Lunch at Hollywood Studios: Toy Story Pizza Planet Arcade

There was no way we were going to Hollywood Studios without eating at Pizza Planet.

Toy Story + Pizza + Video Games = Best Lunch Ever!

He’s Happy. Really

And actually it wasn’t just the atmosphere that was good – it was tasty food too!

With the Quick Service Dining Plan, I got a Meat Lovers pizza, side salad, Cappuccino cupcake, and a Coke.

I reluctantly split my cupcake with Luke, who was disappointed by his measly chocolate chip cookie. It was a big sacrifice – the cupcakes at Hollywood Studios are awesome! Luckily, they are also huge. So it worked out.

Scarlett was determined to play a video game with her pressed penny. That didn’t work too well. We had to distract her with promises of Star Tours and Fantasmic, but we got her out of there without spending all of our pressed pennies.

Character Greeting Interrupted: Buzz & Woody at Hollywood Studios

After Toy Story Mania, we crossed the street for the Toy Story Meet & Greet with Woody & Buzz Lightyear.

It was a difficult start to the day, with a long wait just to get on the first ride. The kids we tired of waiting. And yet we walked into a 40 minute wait for Woody and Buzz. Groan.

They did have fun stuff to play with in line so I was cautiously optimistic.

After all these pictures, we still were only half way through the line. I really wanted to meet Woody. Tom wanted to stay, too. But the kids were crabby, and in the end, they won. We exited, and I watched wistfully through the window as kids hugs the Toys. Then we moved on to making some Toy Story pressed pennies.

We left Pixar Place for bigger and better (ahem – Star Tours) things, but I’m still disappointed at our overall lack of Pixar Character pictures and autographs. Yet again – we have to go back!

Disney Hollywood Studios: Toy Story Midway Mania!

It was our first full day at Disney World and we were up bright and early. We had to get to Hollywood Studios, and more specially, we had to ride Toy Story Midway Mania!

We walked quickly down Hollywood Boulevard, grabbed Fastpasses for later, and hopped in line. It was already about a 25 minute wait. While this was the shortest wait all day (it was up to 75 minutes at one point), Luke was not impressed.
  Disney World 061

I admit, I was kind of impressed.

Once we made it through the line, Luke cheered up. He really enjoyed shooting stuff! It’s basically a 3Dshooting range video game and it’s really fun. Luke didn’t even wear his 3D glasses, so he did well considering. (I still kicked his butt, though.)

Disney World 064

We got to ride again right away with our Fastpasses. Luke was refusing to go until we convinced him we could bypass the line. The second time was much better!

Yay, Fastpass! Luke is forever indebted to you :).

Disney Toy Story Sensory Bin

The last Disney sensory bin of the week is here: Toy Story!

  toystory 001
I thought about using Legos, but I thought the kids might just end up building with them. So, I used rice again. Also in the bin:
Army Men
Wooden Blocks
Mr. Potato Head parts
Lego Duplo Toy Story Figures (Buzz, Jessie, Bullseye, Alien)

Right away, Scarlett started scooping the rice with Potato Head eyes. I hadn’t thought of that! She said, “It’s raining on Jessie!” Pretty creative 🙂
