Disney Movie of the Week: Planes

I know I mention this all the time, but our family LOVES Cars.

Luke, Sally and Me at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

So we are SUPER excited for Planes – I feel like we have been waiting for years for it to come out!

Luke, as a typical four-year-old boy, also loves airplanes.

There are several airplane-related things to do around here, so it should be a fun week.

Disney World Resort Hop #6: Art of Animation Part 1 – Cars!

After spending the morning at the beach, we were continued our tour of Disney Resorts with Art of Animation.

This was a great resort for our little kids. Lots of fun from the beginning with some of our favorite cartoons on the outside of the main building.

And even more in the lobby.

The sketches were amazing. I could’ve sat there all day looking at them.

But we didn’t – there was SO much more to look at!

Welcome to Radiator Springs!

I’ve said before that our family LOVES Cars. It was pretty awesome to be able to walk around in a life-size world of Cars.

The Cozy Cone Motel was the entrance to the Cozy Cone Pool.

And the best part of all – The Wheel Well Motel with Lightning and Sally out front. Just unbelievably cool!

We had the best time touring the Cars section of the resort. I hope someday we will be able to swim here.

Since it was so hot, we took a dinner break before touring the rest of the resort. On to Landscape of Flavors, then more animated fun in Part 2!

Disney Cars Activity: Sensory Bin

I made a Cars-inspired sensory bin to go with our movie watching.

The base was black beans for a road look.

Then I added die cast Cars cars – Lightning McQueen, Mater, Doc, Fillmore, and a Security Guard car.

I also added some little traffic toys I had from Mega Blocks and a vintage Little People set. I had traffic lights, stop signs, a parking meter, traffic cones, a fire hydrant and some wheels.
I also found some Duplo blocks from a Cars set that I put in the bin.
Luke loved this one more than normal. Scarlett took all the extra pieces out and just played with beans and the cars. Both of them enjoy scooping and pouring beans, so any bin that contains those will be fun for them. I was pretty pleased with the way this one came out – I thought it looked fun!

Disney Cars Movie Night

After the car show, it was time for movie night!

I printed out some “movie tickets” from Momma’s Playground. And to set the mood for Cars, I made a dinner inspired by Route 66 road food.

Our pretend Flo’s V8 Cafe menu consisted of:
Corn Dogs – Inspired by the Cozy Dog Drive -In
Popcorn in Cozy Cones – Inspired by the Cozy Cone Motel and The Purple Patch
Root Beer 66 – Inspired by Route 66 Sodas
Cherry Pie – Inspired by The Midpoint Cafe

It was an easy and kid-friendly dinner (except Luke doesn’t like bubbly drinks so he had juice.)

And of course, we watched Cars. Still love that movie!!

carshow 082 There are a few more activities to come for Cars week. Stay tuned!

Disney Cars Activity: Classic Car Show

One of the fun events we try to get to in the city is the annual car show at the DC Armory. Tom loves classic cars, and Luke loves anything with wheels, so it’s fun for all ages.

I whipped up a little invitation and it made Luke feel quite special. Then we were off to see all the awesome cars on display.
There were a lot of cars decorated with flames.

And lots of cars that were super fancy.

My favorite car was the Sharpie Camaro. Pretty amazing art!

Scarlett was excited to find Pooh and Tigger having a 50’s style picnic.

Luke enjoyed the pretend gas station set ups.

Bonus: We got to visit Daddy’s office in the same building!

By this time, the kids were getting hungry and tired, so we headed home for dinner and a movie: Road Food and Cars!

Movie of the Week: Cars

With a car show coming up, we decided it would be a good time for a Cars movie night. Tom and I are huge Cars fans. It even inspired us to take a cross country road trip along Route 66 in 2006.

Luke was also pretty obsessed with Cars as a toddler – he slept with Luigi and Guido every night for a while.

Basically, we are a bunch of Cars lovers around here. So the plans include a trip to the Car show and a Route 66 inspired dinner to eat while we watch the movie.
